Sony fs640 Ubuntu install problem

I am trying to install the latest version of Ubuntu on an old Sony fs640 notebook that I have kicking around. The problem is that the DVD reader can't see the ISO. I've run the same disk through a couple of Dell machines and an HP but when I insert the disk into the Sony it indicates the disk is blank. I've updated the DVD driver to the latest version but still no luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
