some probmelms with compaq nx9010

hi there.
I've installed ubuntu 8.04.1 on compaq nx9010 and found following problems:

1 irda-utils - when start, kernel stops responding. somthing similar to this http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=309404

2 suspend - suspend to ram turns off the monitor but not the system. the only solution is reset. and suspend to disk works fine but only one time. the second time I try to suspend - again, only monitor turns off.

3 "close monitor" button - how to make it work? I want to do "suspend to disk" after I close monitor

is there any solution?
