and it is based on which distro?
i'm asking that only because as i 've said i don't have neither time nor mood to learn and search for new things. cheers!
I'd like to know which distribution u used in this howto, I've seen u use Ubuntu Edgy and SLED 10 (same as I ) but with your howto I failed in SLED although I've not tried it in ubuntu edgy.

so mr. luisc i made this how to for my sled box and it work well
for my Ubuntu box it detect it automatically
Tnx for your response adam_blackice.
In Ubuntu Edgy Eft and SLED 10 my sound card was detected with the right driver except that in both cases with version 1.0.12rc1
I have a toshiba Satellite P105 SP927 with the same soundcard as u. and the only way to bring sound up and running is by turning ACPI off at kernel boot time.
That was the reason of my question if u take back a look to my post at the end I made it.
Any how I want to thank u for the effort of this howto, it's always nice seeing people helping people.
To conclude, I followed your tutorial and it did'nt work , nevertheless I want to tell u I used mercurial repos and now I have better sound but still with ACPI=OFF at kernel boot time.
hi, i have the same problem as mithic..installation is complete but modprobe fails giving the same output..he says he fixed it but do you have any idea what he might have done?
not sure if you got your sound working thru speakers or not ...
if not try this ... mute everything except for the PCM and Master ...
worth a shot.
Jason R.
i'll try that too. thanx
btw after a reeinstallation of dapper(yeah i did format it again)
i have sound through laptop speakers, but now the microphone doesn't work.
@adam_blackice:nice howto btw i forgot to comment about it in the beginning, but i was very upset dealing with my problem which still insists.
of course i did not mean to insult you by any of my previous posts, if i actually did.
thanx for the answers in advance and Happy New Year to u all!!!
by the way i hope to be helpful as best as i could
about kernel boot error at the startup that happened to me also in the Ubuntu and i couldnot solve it
Sorry to bother you again adam_blackice.
I've seen you coudln't solve it in Ubuntu but .... Did u Solve the problem in SLED 10 ?? If so, can you please give me some hints on how can I solve it?
Assuming you did solve it and just to make a clear statement, Turning ACPI=OFF and APM=ON did not help me in anyway. And for what I can read it really seems you have the solution and I really hope you can share it with us.
sorry for being tooo late .....
but ,, by the way the ubuntu detect my sound card normally and without making this HOWTO ......, and the boot errors still here ..,
for SLED this HOWTO remove the startup boot errors and it was pretty eas

Tnx for your answear.
The real problem on Toshiba Laptops P100/105 series, is a buggy BIOS Toshiba will not fix (AFAIC). However, there is a solution (workaround) for this given in Gentoo forums (search ACPI problems).
For SLED 10 users seems to be very easy to fix this problem as far as all the tools are included in the distribution. Anyhow, SLED 10 uses a very old ALSA driver and the most recent 1.0.14rc2 has the fix for CONEXANT chips (ICH7 family), so now I can say that my laptop works very well after fixing the BIOS and applying the latest patch to ALSA 1.0.14rc2 driver just FYI.
Kind Regards
Luis C. Suárez
EDIT: For Ubuntu Edgy users (with toshiba P100/105 series) the only way to have sound is by modifying the BIOS at initrd AFAIK or by disabling ACPI with its consequences.
