Screen Brightness issues

This is my first post here. I'm having a bit of trouble with my new install of Gutsy Gibbon. The screen brightness on my Sony Vaio VGN-FS980 seems to be stuck at about 60% or so. It doesn't matter if it's running on AC or battery, and the sliders under System -> Preferences -> Power Management have no effect. Anybody have any ideas?

B.

Try this in terminal:
$ sudo echo 70 > /proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness

Thanks for the reply. Bash says there is no such file or directory.

Do a search under /proc/acpi, there should have a file called brightness somewhere under /proc/acpi.
cd /proc/acpi
find . -name brightness
