Samsung NC10 Debian Squeeze xfce4 brightness keys not working

The brightness keys (Fn + down arrow & Fn + up arrow) bring up a screen notification in xfce4 on my Debian Squeeze Samsumg NC10 but nothing happens to the brightness. There is no problem in Gnome. What do I need to add to xfce4 to make these keys work?
