RTL 8139 wont connect to internet

Hi all,

i have a Toshiba Sat Pro with onboard RTL 8139 wired ethernet and an onboard wireless card.

In Puppy Linux is tried using the network wizard. It found the card but Auto DHCP failed every time and setting up static ip also failed. I use the same laptop with Ubuntu and i have no problems so its not a faulty piece of harware.

Any help would be welcome, if you need any info i will be happy to provide but you will have to tell me how as i am a novice! (sorry!)

Look at the output of the command lsmod. If you see something like 8139too then the correct module is loading for your ethernet adapter.

Also look at the output for the command
ifconfig -a

If you see eth0 and then some other info your adapter is being recognized.
