After much testing and experimentation i have concluded that linux does not work well for my labtop. I want to know how to remove it completely. I can remove the partition, thus deleting it from existance. But will that delete grub in the mbr? I dont want to delete linux until im sure the grub will dissapear.

Whatever you reinstall will overwrite the bootloader. You can safely delete the partitions (for the record, having "grub" in the MBR won't do anything by itself....grub reads from a config file each time you boot up, so if that config file's gone grub is gone. And in any case, if there's nothing left for it to boot....does it matter?)

well, i would hate for it to have a menu and then there is 2 choices where one will make it not work because the os doesnt exist while the other one will take you into windows. I have both windows and linux. It wont display a uselessly annoying menu each time it starts up if i delete the linux partition will it?

Ah, I see. I was under the impression that Linux had been the only OS, and that therefore you'd be installing something else which would overwrite grub.

So yes, you are correct - you probably would still get that menu. However, it can be fixed!. Boot from the XP (which I assume is the version of Windows that you're using) CD into the recovery console, and type "fixmbr" when you get there. That will restore Windows as your bootloader.

You used to be able to do this with a nice little DOS bootdisk, but sadly that's not really meant for use with 2K or XP systems.
