redhat 9 install difficulties...

so i am trying to install redhat 9 on my compaq n400c but i am having a few difficulties.

I get to the point where the anaconda installer runs, does some basic checking on monitor, mouse etc, then it gets to a point where it says it is starting native server X. At this point the screen quickly switches from the command line to a looping pattern of colours with white dots everywhere. The computer remains busy for about 30 seconds and then just stops doing anything. I have tried running the install with lowres, noprobe and a few others but nothing seems to work.

once the computer stops doing anything it remains in a red screen where i need to crt+alt+del to exit. it returns to the command line screen where it says "X server found in /tmp/X.log" before the kill function line is executed.

I also have a docking station on the laptop, not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.

any ideas?

thanks.

can u give bit more details?
like ur hardware list (particularly monitor, video card details)

if u are comforttable with Shell mode (try linux text method) during startup

how about BIOS enabling or changing video cards size (like 1mb to 8mb or higherups)
