redhat 5.3 with macbook pro 2011
I'm trying to install RED HAT 5.3 on a MBP 2011 and it doesn't recognize the HDD, Is there not a driver for the new Intel 6 series chipset yet? I've looked everywhere. Or am I doing something wrong?
I created a bootcamp partition I have rEFIx installed I have an actual REDHAT boot DVD. It boots from the disk just fine I hit <enter> for the graphical intall and then it says no drivers found, I'm assuming for the HDD. I have an apple SSD. Any help would be appreciated. thank you Craig |
Hi Craig, welcome to the forums! Are you aware the current Red Hat release is Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.0? You can download a 30 day free trial from http://redhat.com
RHEL 5.3 was released in 2009 and definitely will not have the latest drivers for your MBP 2011. You might also consider Fedora, a free community distro sponsored by Red Hat. Fedora is a cutting-edge distro with great support for recent hardware. Sorry but I do not have personal experience with the MBP 2011, I suggest using the forum Search feature for answers. |
Hi Snowpine,
I'm aware of the 6.0 release. Unfortunately the software I want to run requires the 5.3 release of redhat. But I'll give the 6.0 a shot just to see if I can get it to install at all. Thank you. |
Maybe you should try doing a text install (if possible - have not worked with RHEL 5.3)... could be that it can't find an appropriate video driver.

If you only need RHEL for one particular application, I recommend running it inside a virtual machine. That way you don't even need to reboot; you can run it like an application inside of Mac OS.
Alternately, you could let us know what the application is, maybe we can help with that. I would not personally use the obsolete RHEL5.3 as my everyday operating system. |
