Red Hat 9 won't control PCMCIA right.

I'm trying to install Red Hat 9 on a Fujitsu B-2175. I have to use a bootdisk because the CD drive is PCMCIA and can't boot from it. The laptop uses the intel80235 (I believe) PCMCIA controller, and the pcmciadd driver disk loads yenta right. Bah. I'm so confused. Any advice?

Mandrake 9.1, SuSE 8.2, and Debian 3.0 all work right, but I can't get Red Hat or Slackware to work.
