Red Hat 9.0 on a sony Vaio

I have redhat 8.0 running on a sony vaio (PCG-Z505LS) with a pcmcia CD drive. I want to install RH 9 but the install program wont load, when I boot off the CD I get to a blue screen that has "welcome to redhat" at the top and instructions on how to move about on the bottom (i.e.tab/alt-tab = move between fields, F12=next screen, etc)

However the display doesn't show anything on the main part of the screen. Any Ideas on how to get around this? I even tried making a boot floppy and got the same results...

redhat and mandrake have problem booting from a pcmcia cd-rom. i tried it before on my friends laptop but couldn't. so i setteled with a
hd install.

I don't know if you have already solved your problem. I use RedHat 9 on my Sony Vaio (almost) without problems. To install it from your CDs, you must create a boot disk first. Boot your computer with the boot disk and at the prompt type "linux ide2=0x180,0x386".

It worked for me.
