purchase advice for laptop/pda

I'm planning on purchasing a new laptop and a new pda within the next month, and was looking for some advice.

The laptop will be used to play games, so I need a 3d capable graphics card. I will also be traveling with the laptop (away from my broadband) so I'd like a modem that works (if there is one! If not advice on hardware PCMCIA modems would be appreciated). Other than wanting a few games to work (Warcraft III, Jedi Academy, Starcraft, Neverwinter Nights, possibly Sims 2 if it's available for Linux), I don't have any hardcore hardware needs. I'll be using email/internet/word processing and kdevelop/jbuilder, but no big data processing or servers. (May run apache to test web services) The laptop will be replacing a compaq presario that works well enough, but won't play games (no 3d drivers for savage s3 video card).

In addition to the laptop, I'm looking for a new palm device. I have a Treo 90 that's on it's last legs and I'd like to replace it with something similar. Features I'm looking for are onboard thumbpad keyboard ( I like it a lot better than graffiti), and an easy setup for syncing with USB/Evolution (Treo 90 for instance will not work with USB, I had to get a serial cradle to sync).

If anyone has some good experiences/advice let me know!

Thanks,
gizmo

For choosing a Laptop.... this is the Thread you need to read:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=211967

that thread also includes the info on Gedega 4.0 to run all Windows Games in Linux.

In regard to PDA's.... Clie's are very nice, and you can find a couple with thumb keyboards, fully loaded with photo, video camera, night vision, voice recording, builting 256 megs of space, etc....
