Problems with Booting Live CDs

I am having problems both booting from a live CD and installing KNOPPIX 5.0 and/or Umbuntu linux on my Toshiba Satellite 1905. Yes I have changed my BIOS to boot from disk first. I can hear the comp trying to access the CD drive on boot up but it then continues with booting XP. I am completely at a loss here. The CD/DVD drive works great once XP is running.

Please help.

Thank you kindly-

Did you burn the disks yourself? Did you make sure to burn them as iso images and not as data?

I recieved a paid copy of KNOPPIX 5.0 from LinuxOnline.biz so I assume this is correct, and yes I burnt the Umbuntu as iso. Like I said I am completely at a loss.

Thanks for this thought though.

Well, if as you say you have the BIOS set up to check the CDROM first then I am at a loss too. Can you get any bootable CD to work?

I have only been able to get the XP boot disk to work. However that was over a year ago...

What I don't understand is that it sounds like it is checking the CD drive when it is booting. But still nothing happens.

Work it the other way: Can you get these CDs to boot on any _other_ computer?
