problem with the creation of file system on acer aspire one (debian)
Hello. I'm trying to install debian lenny on my acer aspire one. My problem is that when I try to partition the harddrive and a separate partition for my /home, but it doesn't work when I try to install without the /home on a separate partition either. The installation trying to install ext3 file system on the harddrive and then the following message arises:
[!!] Partition disks Failed to create a file system The ext3 file system creation in partition #1 of SCSI1 (0,0,0) (sda) failed. Why am I getting this and how can I do anything about it? Thx. |
You have to choose properly the mount point for /home partition.

Odd I had no troubles during that portion of the install..
Does you aspire One have an actual SATA Hard drive (120 or 160GB) or does it have a Solid State Hard Drive ? Are you using the USB Thumb Drive install method from the Debian Aspire One wiki ? or are you attempting to install from a USB CDROM drive ? (I couldn't get installing from CDROM to work, but it wen't flawlessly from the thumb drive) http://wiki.debian.org/DebianAcerOne http://wiki.debian.org/nblythe |
Have you space left on the drive? Might be a silly question, but windows usually gobbles the lot. Why not post the output of 'fdisk -l'

same problem here
Hello there,
I have the same problem with an acer aspire one with 160 GB Hard drive when installing from usb stick made bootable by syslinux the boot.img needs to scan for an installer ISO image. while doing so it mounts the hard disk sda1 over the directory /hd-media and next it mounts the usb stick /dev/sdb1 over the same directory where it finds its iso image. when partitioning there exists a problem because you cannot partition a mounted volume. I tried to unmount the harddisk /dev/sda1 but didn't succeed because it says device busy. I do not know if there is a workaround for this but i certainly hope there is because I am stuck here to.. hope Anyone can help greetings from Sietze |
Are you using hte Directions in the Debian Acer One Wiki that I linked to above ?
|
yes I used these directions only difference is that my syslinux didn't appear to have the -d option to point to a directory so everything is put on the root dir of my usb stick but booting goes well.
I forgot to mention that I have to run the search for an iso twice the first time it finds nothing the second time around it finds the iso image, but with the device /sda1 harddisk still attached. see my last post I am thinking about filing a bug report.... thanks for your reply Sietze |
bug report filed
I have filed a bug report to bugs.debian.org
the problem I had is now listed as bug 591923 I hope they can fix things because I can't this approach of installing seems to have worked in the past but nowadays it doesn't. sietze |
last thing about this,
I have successfully installed debian on my laptop using netboot and another debian workstation. greetings Sietze |
