Problem with system freezing

I would like to first start off by thanking in advance for any help that may come from this thread. I just partitioned my hard drive and have windows xp on one and mandrake linux 10.1 on the other. Everthing setup well the only thing is after a few minutes using linux the pc freezes and won't let me use my mouse or keyboard. I get no on screen error message and am forced to turn off the power to get the pc to work again. Here is list of what I am using.

Dell XPS 3.4 p4 ht
256mb ati 9800 mobility
Sigmatel sound card
Usb keyboard
Usb wireless mouse logitech mx 700
Canon i350 printer

Not sure what kind of motherboard is in it or what else to mention about the pc. I have never used linux before but have read many forums on this issue and have seemed to have gotten nowhere.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I had the same problem with a custom built desktop... there could be several things causing it. Through a long series of diagnostics I determined it to be the motherboard, and I am currently waiting on my new board, due to arrive any minute from Outpost.com

Try flashing the BIOS and resetting all the cards, PCI, AGP and RAM

Good luck, hope its not your board.

I have tried again today to try and figure out what is causing the freeze up. I don't think its an actual hardware problem because xp still works fine. Could it be a driver issue? If so how do I find out wich one it would be.

Thanks for the reply

An update on mine... it was the power supply... I would contact the manufactuer, or maybe try it without the battery installed and just as a wall connection
