So, I'm a complete computer idiot, but I really would like to avoid using windows. i have installed Ubuntu 5.10 on my 2100us but have no idea how to get the dialup modem to work. Any ideas?
That Laptop has a software modem (winmodem). You will need a special driver. One source is Linuxant. I use Fedora which doesn't support it out of the box. Maybe others do. I finally gave up trying to use the built in modem because I had to get a new version of the driver or recompile it every time there is a kernel upgrade, etc.
I haven't tried the latest Ubuntu or Suse. Maybe things are better now?
