PDA Sync is Inconsistent in Evolution 2.0

Greetings all,
I'm having a strange problem syncing my Tungsten E in Evolution 2.0. The PDA will sync OK, only after I go into Pilot Settings and get my settings from the PDA. This should only have to be done once, at the initial setup of the PDA in Evolution. My PDA might sync 2 or 3 times then the next time it won't sync and I have to reinitialize the setting again.
Any thoughts on what might be interfering with this? Is there a log I can monitor that might give me some insight.
I'm using
ProMepis beta 3
Evolution 2.0 and gnome-pilot, gnome-pilot conduits from Debian Unstable
/dev/ttyUSB1 is the link to the pda.
TIA,
Jim Adams
