PCMCIA support in Slackware installation

Hi!
I bought old laptop Compaq Armada 7370DTM. I want to install Slackware on it, but the I have problems getting my SONY PCGA-CD5 - CD Drive to work!

First of all I downloaded Mandrake 10 pcmcia.img boot floppy. Everything was great, it detected my CD Drive, and I installed it. The only problem was that after installation I had:
Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init=option to kernel.

This message I got, when Mandrake detected the drive:
Code:
Found device UJDB110
I searched G4L, and found a lot of results about this problem in Mandrake. But I never bother to fix this, since I want to install Slackware.

I downloaded Slackware boot and root floppy images. And did the following:
Code:
1. Boot the bare.i bootdisk. This uses a generic IDE kernel and is the
    correct bootdisk to use when installing Slackware Linux on a laptop.

2. When prompted, load the install rootdisks starting with install.1.
    These are the main installation disks.

3. After you're logged into the system with the username "root", you start
    the PCMCIA support system with the command "pcmcia". Then you'll be
    prompted to take these actions:

    + Insert the pcmcia.dsk support floppy
    + Attach your PCMCIA/Cardbus devices if they are not already attached.
    + Remove the pcmcia.dsk support floppy
After setup loaded pcmcia.dsk floppy, my CD drive started to spin CD and I got two beeps and message: The PCMCIA/CardBus subsystem is now installed...

But when I ran setup, it didn't detect any CD drive. But my CD drive is listed in pcmcia-cs supported card list!

These are the contents of /var/log/messages:
Code:
executing: `modprobe ide-cs`
+ modprobe: Can't locate module ide-cs
modprobe exited with status 255
module /lib/modules/2.4.26/pcmcia/ide-cs.o not available
get dev info on socket 1 failed : Resource temporarily unavailable
These modules ware loaded:
Code:
i82365
pcmcia_core
yenta_socket
I also downloaded trinux, but it had the same error message in /var/log/messages loading ide-cs module!

I have checked Tuxmobil and Linux-on-laptops, but didn't find the solution for my problem!

Does anyone have any idea why doesn't Slackware detect my CD drive and how to make slackware detect it? Thank you!

I found out that Mandrake loads ide-cs module.
Code:
* PCMCIA: probing PCI bus..
*      Texas instruments PCI1131 found, 2 sockets (driver yenta_socket).
* have to insmod pcmcia_core
* needs pcmcia_core
*      succeeded pcmcia_core
* have to insmod yenta_socket
* needs yenta_socket
*      succeeded yenta_socket
* have to insmod ds
* needs ds
*      succeeded ds
* CM: cardmgr/hacked starting, version is 3.1.29
* CM: watching 2 sockets
* CM: warning, Card Services release does not match kernel (generally harmless)
* CM: initializing socket 1
* CM: socket 1: Ninja ATA
* have to insmod ide-cs
* needs ide-cs
*      suceeded ide-cs
* cardmgr rc: 0
Where can I get thet ide-cs module! I have installed Slackware 10.1 and I don't have this module eather!

First, try the cardctl utility: 'cardctl ident' and 'cardctl status' and see if it produces any info about it.

Slackware leaves out a lot of stuff during an initial install, especially from the kernel. The bare_i kernel for booting is just that - bare. It doesn't do as much hardware detection as Mandrake or Suse. You'll probably have to tell Slackware about the device. Look in /var/log/messages for any indications that the OS even acknowledged the device

10.2 installs a stock 2.4.31 kernel. You might want to go to the kernel source directory in /usr/src/linux-2.4.31 and run make menuconfig. Go to the Bus section, the PCMCIA subsection and make sure the correct options are set. If you change anything to *, rebuild and install the kernel. Or if you change anything to M, rebuild and install the modules. Then rerun the lilo command and reboot.
