opensuse 10.2 on Toshiba P100 NO SOUND again!

Hello!
I had to reinstall opensuse 10.2 on my Toshibe P100-194 Laptop (because of the corrupted reiserfs), and before I did the reinstall, I slided in my 2 X 1 GB RAM memory sticks. The install itself (including the updates) were running smoothly - no problems so far.
From the previous installation I know there is the ALSA sound problem with the CONEXANT ICH7 chip and so I tried the patch described here at: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi....php?p=2642299
As soon I had applied the patch and tried a reboot - bummer - the screen just went black and remained that way until it shut itself off. But booting is possible using the safe boot option, but that doesn't really help, but shows that the sound works with the applied patch.
So I had to take the patch off, because I want a full boot of the whole Linux system on 2 GB RAM memory. The ironic part of the patch instructions tells me that patching is no more necessary with the ALSA 1.0.14 release.
So I found an ALSA rpm package from packman version 1.0.14a-0.pm.0 (http://packman.links2linux.org/package/alsa/28112), which should have the conexant driver implemented - but no such luck!
So now I am stranded here again with the ALSA - conexant sound driver problem, which I thought has been solved!
Any suggestion how to deal with it is very highly appreciated! Thank you for your time and effort!
