OHCI Hanging on Startup

So I have a Compaq Presario 2500, which apparently has problems with firewire... I have installed RedHat distros and gotten them to work with the nofirewire option, but know Slackware 9.1 is hating me. On install i have tried "bare.i nousb nofire" and then installed a full installation, but when I do initial startup it hangs at the OHCI-1394 part. I have also tried "mount /dev/hda5 nousb nofirewire", it still doesn't work. BTW I have done my Google searches, people never replied and said how they got it too work though. Anyone have a clue what to do (that includes SCarGo)? Thank you.

I had the same issue with slackware on my compaq nx9010.
At some point in the installation procedure you will be asked if you want hotplug features to be enabled... say no.
Once finished the installation procedure, restart and everything should be OK.
At this point you can choose between two options:
Put the 1394_ohci driver into /etc/hotplug/blacklist and keep this driver away (if firewire is not strictly necessary).
Compile and install a 2.6 kernel series on wich firewire is working perfectly well (my choice was 2.6.2 as with 2.6.3 or higher I got some issues ith the sound card
Hope this helps
Ciao

Thanks I ended finding another answer too, let hotplug run but kill firewire, just rename the file ohci.o.gz to something else (not the driver inside fo it) from Slax, Knoppix, or any other cd distro. The only problem is insmod prints about 10 messages about not finding the driver, oh well, what can you do... Thank you!
