Nvidia Optimus bumblebee issues nouveau - x11[drm] cannot open device

Hi there everyone.
First before I continue the specs of my laptop are as follows :
Asus u36jc laptop : nvidia geforce 310 m with 1gb ram. and intel i915 graphics.

I am trying to get the optimus solution - bumblebee working on fedora 17.
This all used to work on fedora 16 no problem.

Steps I have taken (like in f16) :
installing bumblebee according to fedora wiki.

(new in f17)
Problem: bbswitch works fine turning it off but gives the error in the subject of this thread when optirun is executed. Also during boot up the nouveau driver shows an error : invalid rom contents

Attempted solution: I tried installing the nvidia drivers from rpm fusion with akmod-nvidia. I was however unable to boot. The boot screen appears with no rom error, however no GUI is visible after the display manager is started, there is only a brief flicker of the screen.
Notes : Yes bumblebee conf would have to be adjusted to look for nvidia drivers, but even with the bumblebee service disabled the same thing happens.
nouveau was also blacklisted with the akmod installation.

It would be greatly appreciated if someone could help me with this, or at the very least point me to the right log file so I can pose a more precise question. I would really like to have optirun work again like it did in fedora 16.

I am well out of date on nvidia, but the last things I heard about Optimus support were bad. Try googling your kit on this site, or phoronix.com, which seems to have a good smattering of developers prowling the forums.

If you do post there, they are inclined to presume a lot of knowledge, but you seem to be at the races.
