Question nvidia driver problems in fc5 and 2.6.16.7 kernel.

I am trying to install the latest nvidia driver on fc5 and 2.6.16.7 kernel, it installs fine and updates my xorg.conf automatically. So I fire init 5 to come back 2 x mode but the compauter hangs with nothin on screen and nothin works. Rivafb is not loaded nd nt even present. My hardware is Toshiba satellite 6100 and nvidia geforce4 mobile go and I am tryin to install the nvidia 8576 driver downloaded from nvidia.com.

Any help is highly appreciated

Reboot into to runlevel 3 and check your logs.
What does the /var/log/messages say? What about xorg logs?

Same problem

Hi,

I'm having exactly the same problem, though with Suse 10.1 with Kernel 2.6.16.13. I've got a Toshiba laptop 5200 with GE Force 460 Go. I tried to install the latest NVidia driver (8762), installation is going fine, no errors during compilation, but when sax is trying to start the video, everything freezes.
The 3D drivers of NVidia used to work fine up to now, but with this new driver the support for this graphic chip seems not to work anymore, even though written in the documentation that 460 Go is still supported.
What I did is install the last legacy driver available on the NVidia site (7182). it's installing fine, 3D is working and all is going smooth.
Just try the same thing, it might work for you.

Regards, Pieter
