Noob with dell xps m1530
Hello, i have a dell xps m1530, i have had quite a time with linux but installing on lappy would be the first one.I am confused with how do i partition my system to dual boot vista and keep the "recovery partition"
I have currently 2 partitions on my system C:= 210gb D:= recovery C: has windows vista which came pre-installed.I wanted to ask if i wanted to dual boot system b/w linux and windows, may I just resize C: to say C: windows 30 gb D: windows additioaal partition 60 gb E:- linux [prolly /dev/sda6] linux 20 gb F:- linux 60 gb /dev/sda7 g:- linux 40 gb /dev/sda8 g:= recovery [cant put recovery before it because i will resize C:.Than I run recovery (so vista will be re-installed in c: ,then I install linux in the /dev/sda6 if i want /dev/sda6 as my root?] |
No need to re-install Vista.
Try resizing using the Vista tools - on my M1330 it would not go below 50%. I used the gparted liveCD to shrink it further. On reboot Vista went through re-org - took about 45 minutes, but worked fine after that. Then do the partitioning (I prefer gparted as it'll do Linux filesystems), and Linux install(s). Easy. |
