No Sound with Fedora 11 on Acer Aspire 8935g

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
I have installed Fedora 11 running from a Seagate 1Tb USB drive using an Acer Aspire 8935g Quad Core laptop. I was happy with the results except for the fact that there is no sound. The onboard sound on the laptop appears to be a Realtek HD Audio device.
Video play back is fine using RPM Fusion but no joy with sound. Does anyone have any ideas how to get this working under Fedora 11?

Since no-one more knowledgeable has replied . . .
You could do worse than look at this Ubuntu guide:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=205449
and follow the general approach.
Of course, apt-get is for Debian- based distros, use yum instead if you have to.

One thing they don't mention that had me stumped:you may find that sound works when the Alsa widget shows MUTED if you are not using IEC9588 (Linux-speak for S/PDIF ie digital) I don't know what you have for speakers, but if they are hooked up with an audio cable this may be it. Also check that you are in the audio group.

Thanks impert the link looks useful. I have no external speakers attached at the moment. I am trying to get it to work through the on board speakers on the laptop. It has a 5.1 system in built. Will try out the steps on the Ubuntu link you sent. Thanks

Hi All,

Just to add up to the thread , try out below link,it might not sound anything closer to the audio chipset/card you have but just give a try,
