no sound on dell 1525

Hi,

I am trying mandriva 2008 (spring edition) on dell 1525 but the sound is not working.

While installing also it generated a loud sound (puuuuuu) for long, that time I muted it by plugging a earphone jack in headphone slot. It appeared to me as loud feedback noise. Later I found that feedback noise goes away if mux is kept to zero at kmix.

But the main problem is that the sound is still not working.

It will be great if someone can help me solving this..

Here is my debug log..

Thanks,
sandeep

(after a boot) can you post:
ls -l /dev/dsp
id

what happens when you try playing a mp3 file. Install mpg321 and try on a file in commandline and paste the output:
mpg321 >filename<

Are you using KDE then check your sound settings there is something called arts (daemon) and stop it. (esd for gnome)
ps -ef |grep artsd
ps -ef |grep esd

Try unmuting or muting something called "headphone jack sense" in alsamixer.

I tried mpg321 but it doesn't give any error, it plays mp3 file as if there is nothing wrong. Even mplayer plays video properly but no sound.

I tried muting/unmuting master and capture in alsamixer but it did not help. Could not find "headhone jack sense"

alsamixer shows Card : PulseAudio, Chip : PulseAudio (i don't know from where alsamixer is seeing this card and chip)
