No sound in PCLinuxOS-HDA_Intel

I had this same problem in Ubuntu and I switched to a different distro for this reason. I had to disable ACPI in Ubuntu to get sound and even then it was a shitty quality, so I went into this after having issues with WiFi as well.

That said, I am relatively new to linux. My roomate is a whiz with it but I want to learn this on my own.

Laptop is a Toshiba P105-S9722

Chipset is System Chipset: Mobile Intel 945PM Express Chipset

I'm 90% sure I need drivers for it, lspci pulls up snd_hda_intel as my sound card but modprobe doesn't pull up anything. Alsaconf didn't fix anything either.

Another question I have is about enabling dual core, as system hardware manager is only showing one core.

LSPCI:

00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS/940GML and 945GT Express Memory Controller Hub (rev 03)
