no sound after installing debian squeeze on gigabyte q1742n notebook


Boot screen indicated alsa modules not loaded so can anyone help

After I installed Debian I didn't have sound-

If you don't have sound after following these instructions try following this tutorial:

The Q1742N is fairly new, so it may be possible that Debian 6 simply doesn't have drivers for the audio part. I would try something newer on that laptop, maybe a Live-CD of Ubuntu 12.10, to see if your sound is working with a newer kernel.
