If you use Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 you have support from Red Hat (if you regularly bought it). Why don't you ask the support people? If you don't have bought it I would recommend to replace your OS with either CentOS, or some distro that is more assumed to be used on a desktop, like Fedora.

RHEL 5 dose not support all the NEW stuff in laptops
it never did and never will
RHEL was NOT designed for the laptop !
it is designed for THE SERVER first then the lab and last the DESKTOP

for laptop help call your PAID FOR Red Hat support
