New kernel won't boot on Dell XPS m1210
I recently installed Slackware 11 on my Dell XPS m1210, and compiled a new 2.6.19 kernel in order to get a few components to work, but when I try to boot the new kernel, I get the following:
VFS: Cannot open root device "303" or unknown-block(3,3) Please append a correct "root=" boot option Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(3,3) the drivers for my IDE/SATA controller, and the drivers for the ext3 file system (which I am using) are both compiled directly into the kernel. I've checked over my lilo.conf numerous times, and I'm stumped. I would appreciate any suggestions you might have. Thanks |
you must have had a mess up in the compilation of the new kernel. you rescue mode and try compiling again.

I've tried that, no luck.
