Need laptop recommendation

My IBM 600E 's mouse bit the dust and instead of fixing it I have decided to buy a "new" used laptop since there are so many issues which have to be dealt with on this laptop concerning Linux. I have a 40 gig hard drive which will be partitioned between XP and Redhat 8.0 (or 7.3 if that doesn't work). Any recommendations for a make and model running around 800 megahertz which would do the trick for me?

I'd take a look at the Thinkpad T-series. You should be able to find a used one for a decent price.

well my iBook is a lovely 800Mhz number. Comes with Mac OS X (which I think is lovely) but there are many forms of linux which will run well on this sort of machine.

My particular model is now obsolete Apple wise. Nowadays the same laptop of mine new is 900 Mhz (everything else is the same just the processor). There are quite a few places online which specialise in second hand/refurbished macs.

This in my opinion is a great site to read reviews of laptops from a variety of manufacturers: http://tuxmobil.org/mylaptops.html

I would say though that if you've had a good experience with IBM, you might as well stick with it. -- J.W.

this place is only a 1/2 hr from me and i've bought 4-5 laptops from them for diff. people, no probs. w/ any of them.

they have used laptops from $99-$1000+, and very reliable service.

they are just off rt 146 in Uxbridge Mass.
the inventory list changes a lot.

www.retrobox.com has some decent p3 stuff from time to time. I bought a p2 from them a while back and I used the hell out of it until I decided I wanted a brand new laptop. Might find an ibm or 2 there.

EDIT: Just my .02$...I have a had a few laptops and I love the Dell inspiron 5100 I have right now. It's a little big, but it fits me just right. I know dell has refurbished models, depending on your budget.
