need help with drivers. Ubuntu 9.10. Apple iBook G3 dual USB
First of all, Hi. Im Nick, and I'm a Linux newbie.
Okay, with that intro aside, I got Ubuntu to install just fine on my iBook. A little slow to install, but worked. My USB wireless adapter even works. but thats the only thing that does, other than the trackpad and keyboard. The display is stuck at 800x600, it seems to be split into 2 screens, and i have no sound. heres a picture of my display problem. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...n/IMG_0006.jpg I looked online the first time i installed it, and put a new config file in it (i cant remember the file name... /etc/xorg/ or something) and that made it go to the command prompt and not display any kind of gui. i know there are a lot of folks who have put ubuntu on iBooks, but they all talk about everything EXCEPT what I have a problem with. OH, i just noticed on my desktop i have the xorgfile. (on my mac). here is the xorg: Section “Device” Identifier “Video” Driver “ati″ BusID “PCI:0:16:0″ Option “UseFBDev” “true” Option “NoInt10″ “true” EndSection Section “Monitor” Identifier “LCD” HorizSync 58-62 VertRefresh 43-117 EndSection Section “Screen” Identifier “Default Screen” Monitor “LCD” Device “Video” DefaultDepth 24 SubSection “Display” Depth 24 Modes “1024×768″ EndSubSection EndSection Section “DRI” Mode 0666 EndSection that seemed to make my computer stop displaying the GUI. now that i learned how to pull it out of the command prompt, i cant find the command to install that. I could really use some guidance here. I have done everything in the books... manipulated windows, manipulated iTunes to sync a single iphone on 2 computers, heck i even have Windows 7/Ubuntu/OS X 10.5.8 triple booting on my AMD gaming system. but i cant figure out how to make this 10 year old laptop work with a late version of linux. oh, and the only resolutions that are available are 640x480 and 800x600. (man..i remember when 800x600 was TINY!!!) 640x480 makes the screen totally unreadable. Thanks in advance to everyone. Nick |
okay, looks like i FUBAR'd it. i created the xorg file, and put in some values found on this site, and i get the error 'fatal error no screens found'
looks like im reinstalling in the morning. |
