Question NEC Versa LXi Mini-PCI card problems

I have recently acquired a 2nd hand laptop in the form of a NEC Versa LXi.

Using Mandrake 9.2 as my distro I have managed to install all the devices in the laptop except the Mini-PCI card which contains both a Xircom modem and Intel network card.

I have googled for info on the laptop and/or Mini-PCI card and have found some posts with people that have had success with the card, yet they did nothing out of the ordinary and MDK7.2 managed to automatically detect it on their machines, yet my MDK9.2 is unable to.

Should the card come up on a lspci? Here is my output of it:

Code:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corp. 440BX/ZX/DX - 82443BX/ZX/DX Host bridge (rev 03)
00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp. 440BX/ZX/DX - 82443BX/ZX/DX AGP bridge (rev 03)
00:03.0 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1450 (rev 03)
00:03.1 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1450 (rev 03)
00:04.0 Multimedia audio controller: ESS Technology ES1978 Maestro 2E (rev 10)
00:07.0 Bridge: Intel Corp. 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 ISA (rev 02)
00:07.1 IDE interface: Intel Corp. 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 IDE (rev 01)
00:07.2 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 USB (rev 01)
00:07.3 Bridge: Intel Corp. 82371AB/EB/MB PIIX4 ACPI (rev 03)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: S3 Inc. 86C270-294 Savage/MX-MV (rev 11)
Can anyone help on the output of this? The only line I think could be relevent is the 00:07.0 - this comes up as unknown on verbose mode, making me think that the bridge to the Mini-PCI card is not correctly working (but ISA??).

However, after all this I think that the card could simply be shafted as the OS which orginally came with the laptop (Win98) did not detect the card.

Any ideas much appreciated.

I would believe it is part of:

00:03.0 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1450 (rev 03)
00:03.1 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1450 (rev 03)

Which from googling appears the yenta_socket module should be loaded possibly.

What's modules you got running right now?

PS. Long time no see Cragstar?

It also appears your lspci is the same output on this IBM Stinkpad model I found here: http://www9.linuxcare.com/labs/certs...-cal31-sys.epl

I should have guessed you would reply first Trickykid!

The yenta_socket module has been picked up by MDK9.2 and is loaded. I originally thought this was to do with the two PCMCIA slots, due to them being part of the CardBus?

I'm at work at the moment but when I get a chance I'll post up the modules and i/o ports.

I think this is the Mini-PCI card that should be in the laptop. It looks pretty harmless enough and I'm thinking it should be picked up by Mandy.

From searching the net the yenta_socket module is for the PCMCIA slots, which are working fine.

I'm thinking that the Mini-PCI *should* work with Linux, but it looks like a H/W issue (i.e. either there is a connection loose to it/no power/faulty card).

When I get confident enough to open the laptop up I will take a look at it.

Yeah, if the yenta socket is loading and its showing to be used twice, those should be ok then. I'm thinking now at this time its got to be hardware issue as well..
