Mouse pointer stuck at bottom of screen

One of my systems is a Dell Inspiron 4100 running Fedora Core 2. Sporadically, the mouse will be stuck at the bottom of the screen. Using the trackpad or USB mouse has no effect. Using the mouse stick, I can move the mouse (with resistance) but the pointer acts as if it is weighted down by lead boots and then immediately goes back to the bottom of the screen. This would happen occassionally in the Red Hat series. However, since upgrading to FC1 and then FC2 the problem has grown substantially worse. It used to be that a reboot would clear it up or just wait 5-10 minutes and it would clear itself. Now, not even these solutions work. Any suggestions.
