moonOS
To whom it may concern,
Does anyone know which netbook from any company works best with moonOS 3.0 straight out of the box? I have no intention of buying a new netbook, but a few of my friends would like to know and so would I. |
MoonOS is based on Ubuntu. So any netbook that works well with Ubuntu should also work with MoonOS. Here is the official netbook support list for Ubuntu:

The netbook support list for Ubuntu is a little dated. Does anyone know of a support list for moonOS on msi winds or asus netbooks? Also does anyone know if moonOS 3.0 will get an lxde version?

I have never owned or used a netbook. However, I do have plenty of other laptops. Of course I always install linux first thing. I have never ever found a laptop on which any flavor of linux will not run. Sometimes it takes a little work, but it always works fine. From an only toshiba satellite with 128 ram and no CD rom to a brand new 64 bit HP Pavilion that doesn't even support windows XP. I can't say for sure that it will work, but its pretty safe to assume that it will.

What do you guys think about the HP mini 1000 mi edition? Is it worth buying as a secondary computer?

Is there a list of full size laptops that have linux preinstalled? Maybe a few with moonOS preinstalled.

If I installed MoonOS 2.0 lxde version on any laptop or netbook how would I be able to update it periodically through the command line? I know the creator will only support it until 2010, but I also know that any version of linux can be updated manually or is it possible to update it through the update manager?

Does anyone know which asus eee pc runs moonOS 2.0 lxde version the best straight out of the box? Design and any kind of preferences aside. Or runs ubuntu the best straight out of the box? Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.

Was out earlier today giving a Young Lady a presentation Linux.. She wants to leave windows... She tired of all the notification messages and getting viruses.. Anyways... I'm running Ubuntu Remix on a live usb stick... I'm planning to run Easy peasy, fedora, Elive.... What I found was there is a bit of hip behind the Remix desktop by Ubuntu and Easy peasy. You can switch the view to a classic desktop. So really you just put band-aid over top the desktop to give a larger view start menu Since both Ubuntu Remix and Easy Peasy are based off the original Ubuntu/Debian there are no problems running on my Acer Aspire One... What I forgot was this is a powerful machine for its size.. I got concerned because how small it is... My mind tricked me and assumed it being so small it was going to be slower then a Pentuim 1 or 486...LOL But in fact much more powerful you can load just about any distro onto your Netbook... My biggest complaint is the Price, Size of Screen and RAM... I have a 11'6" screen which is the second largest out right now... But I feel from the choices of Netbooks I got the biggest bang for the buck... Price $299, Screen 11.6, Ram 2 gigs... Some other Netbook makers want 300 to 400 bucks for the same specs as mine... I figure your asking that much because of the Name brand... Well time will only tell how long my Netbook lasts compared to others..But if my Acer Laptop is any indication then I'm good.. My Acer Laptop has been running solid for 3 1/2 years... later good luck culaterout |

Sorry, I skipped over the company part above.... Pro's - Small, Light weight, good for internet and chatting... Con's - No way to play dvd without external device, Video hit/miss, size of keyboard hit/miss... Screen size hit/miss if your planning to stair at screen for 8 hours on a 8.9 or 10.1 inch screen... Does anyone have this laptop? If you do has anyone installed ubuntu on it and how did it work out? How compatible are hp and compaq laptops with ubuntu or any type of linux os as the primary os? I know that the hp mini 110 has a linux os preinstalled on it. Also how are the core functions and screen resolutions on the hp and compaq laptops? Core functions like video, internet, and hard drive space. Also how does one access the bios on an hp and compaq laptop, do they put it in the computer's firmware or hardware? I know dell sections off one part of their hard drive that does not allow the owner access, the part that has the bios. Are hp just as evil as dell and acer? Or are they more committed to open source and open hardware access?

Look your going on with far to many questions...
Best way to try this on your laptop is do a livecd.... I did find one issue with Sound Card Also because most users in LinuxQuestions don't have your hardware its best to refer to Ubuntu Hardware Compatibility in the Ubuntu forums... Are hp just as evil as dell and acer? Look this is the last question I will answer... Its not really a matter of Brand Name that causes the most problems its hardware as far as Graphics and Sound Card... Bios issue from years back has been resolved with so many motherboards going to a similar Bios to control there motherboard and the hardware connected... Older PC's will still give problems... Far as this question goes below just type this right into google and do a search you will find the answer...
