Hi BashTin, thank you very much for trying to help me.
I'm using XP right now and when i look up at Device Manager, there are 4 view that I can see (note, my modem named "TOSHIBA Software Modem AMR")
1) When I choose "View devices by type", my modem is view as a son of "Modems".
2) "View devices by connection", my modem is view as a son of "Ali Audio Accelerator WDM Driver" (there is also a node named "PCI to ISA" but it doesn't list out my modem).
3) "View resources by type", my modem is listed twice, once in the "Input/Output (I/O)" part as "[00000178-0000017F] its name", and once in the "Interrupt request (IRQ)" as "(ISA) 11 its name"
4) "View resources by connection", it showed just like part 3, exept for the I/O, it has a sub-node named "[000000-00000CF7] PCI Bus", then the same as i describe in part 3

Now i willl disconnect and log in to Linux, I'll post the file isa.txt to you in later post!
Thanks again for your help :-X

Ok now i've just come back from Linux, always carrying some bad news!!!
First, when i try

cat /proc/bus/isapnp/devices > isa.txt

it said

cat: /proc/bus/isapnp/devices: No such file or directory

so, i try to look at the content of those folder, then at the sub-folder bus, using ls, i can see only three sub one, they are

pccard pci usb

no folder named isapnp ! !!!
So now, do i have any chance to have my modem worked in Linux ???

Hi,
you need to double click on the modem device listed under modems (son of modem). This will bring up a second window with all the modem properties in. Look under general and under location it will tell you what bus and device it is under. See what else it says.
Back to ISA. It might have nothing at all to do with it but untill we can elminate it from being anythig to do with the ISA bus we aint going to get very far. (Just because its listed under PCI in Windows may not mean it is not on that PCI to ISA bus (guestimating again)). So we find out once and for all what, if any ISA devices you have. Install isapnptools, should be on your disc, then run that pnpdump as mentioned earlier. If it is not then listed we know for certain it has nothing at all to do with the ISA bus and is soley PCI.
Also do the insmod thing again and post dmesg.

Good luck, BashTin.

I hate to ask for some help but...

I'm too new to Linux, not to ask.

BashTin you are the modem man!

Do you have some time for some more assistance?

I have a Gateway 305XL laptop with a GTW v.92 modem. Of course my
shiny brand new install of Mandrake 9.2, k 2.4.22-10mdk does not recognize
the modem. I went to Gateway support and found that the modem in
my PC is a Broadcom 94124 model with the eeprom ID:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24c6&SUBSYS_24c68086, which is an Intel 82801DB
AC'97 type, according to the Linuxant site. Linuxant recommends a driver for
the Conexant firmware, but nothing for Broadcom firmware (which I suspect
are identical and supplied by Intel).

I did try to install the Conexant modem the other day, but did not realize the
hsfconfig command was necessary to complete the install. I don't really care
for the Conexant driver, since it is only a 14.4Kbps freeware.

Then I found a guy who installed his modem in Mandrake 9.1 using the
instructions in this post:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...841#post469841

These instructions make some sense to me, but something is missing.
I tried this install last night but had two error messages at the very end,
about 'mknod' command arguments missing, and something about a config
file, again!

It seems that I don't know the link between the software install and the
config files, for either install process.

Since you know linux well, do you think I should rpm -e these two previous
install attempts?

What do you think the best approach is, at this point?

TIA for any help you can muster.

Regards,
Al
