minicom to Cisco console port
Hi,
I am trying to connect to a cisco router console port using minicom. I have the cable connected to com5 on my laptop which is the usb port. I have a USB-Serial converter to a Cisco rolledover cable. This works fine with hyperterminal on windoze. I am using /dev/ttyS4 as the device and 9600 8N1. I have also edited /etc/inittab.conf to respawn agetty as seen in another post here. None of this seems to work. I still get 'offline' in minicom. Any ideas, has anyone got this working before? If I cannot get this working does anyone know of another app I can use in linux to do this? it would save me rebooting into windows and using secureCRT or puTTY. TIA |
Hi.
Do you have the 'usbserial' module loaded? Dave |
yes I have,
lsmod says usbserial is there. minicom says initialising modem then says press CTRL-A Z for help. I have tried to turn on local echo which works. I then tried a CTRL-M and a CTRL-J but still no login prompt. Thanks for replying |
I case anyones interested.
These are storage routers from Cisco, 5428s, I want to use them to sit between a SAN and MPLS Vlans. So a long way to go yet, and I cant get minicom to work! The storage routers have a mgt connector that I can browse to. This does seem to work yet either. (I can ping it but not browse anything). I want to use bith from Linux otherwise I will have to use windows. Regards, C-w C-spc C-y pasted. |
Me again.
Is the correct driver for your model of USB-serial converter being loaded? I've looked in the kernel config, and there's quite a few there. Dave |
Well the web mgt now works, but only through Linux. (5428 configuration)
The Console works but only through Windows terminal emulators. I'm pretty sure it is ok but I will have to check. Ive been away a couple of days, thanks for the response. I will find the info, maybe even fix it! More info soon. Cheers, Neil. |
