Question minicom issues connecting to sun boxes

heylo,

i was using minicom for a while to access various sun servers and workstations. all was good. i was happy. but since ive done a new install of fedora core 1 minicom doesnt want to work properly after i set it up right. this is on my laptop so my serial port is /dev/ttys0. i was able to get output from the box to my laptop, but it wouldnt scroll like it used to. as a matter of fact i had to hold down the space bar to get the cursor to even advance. not good. and it even stopped scrolling completely and would stop working.

as of writing this i can use minicom w/out a hitch from my desktop running FC1 and the settings are identical, save for the /dev/ttys1 on the desktop.

i thought it might have been something weird so i installed mandrake 10 and even suse 9(on the laptop) with the same problem. oh yeah, and to slap me in the face even more i can boot to windows on the laptop and hyperterminal works fine so its not the seirial port i guess. id try kermit if it wasnt a pain to use so i was wondering if anyone out there had a clue to this.

i don't know the answer to your question, however this page has some information regarding another serial terminal program called 'cu'

http://www.idevelopment.info/data/Un...Consoles.shtml

internestingly enough, that page begins with talking about use with a sun box. perhaps this alternative to minicom can help isolate the problem ?

it was my fault. somehow my dumb a$$ enabled the infrared port in bios and it took over com 1. funny thing is hyperterminal didnt have issues, only linux.

glad it works now.
