Hi,
I have Dell Inspiron 1300 with ICH6 sound card & modem. With SuSE 10.1 and conexant modem driver it sounds fine, but I can't make mic work well. It somehow works but at a very low level, so I can't use it with krec or Skype. In kmixer there is no slide for increasing the mic level. I've tried installing alsa 1.0.12 but it doesn't help.

what about alsamixer? and alsactl store

In alsamixer there is a slide with label 'mic', but it can't be increased. What is 'alsactl'?

alsactl just saves alsa settings.

as far as your problem goes, you might try downloading a newer kernel, or the newest alsa. There might be a driver fix for it. I'm using a dell inspiron 1100 on slackware with kernel 2.6.16
