mandriva spring on amilo pro 4305

I have an Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro Edition 3405 laptop. (502mb ram, phoenix bios, intel 82801gbm ich7-m soundcard, realtek rtl 8139 netcard) After I installed mandriva spring to my laptop some problem has occured despite on mandriva 2008 there were't any but I'd like to use spring. First of all on mandriva spring I have to configure my modprobe.conf to make my sound card work (it's ok now). As for internet I couldn't configure it to work in promiscious mode. Finally my laptop's temperature is really high on spring (53-54 Celsius). Thanks for any suggestion or help. sry for my english

well you have to be root to change the network card to promiscuous mode. and this is only useful for packet sniffing and hacking in general. not too useful for normal usage.

also the laptop is probably running hot because the CPU is not scaling (probably because you haven't chosen a cpu freq scaling policy. read the CPU freq documentation in the linux kernel source for more information) I have mine set to "ondemand". the out-of-the box setup from mandriva is probably set to "performance"

if you are using KDE as your desktop the small applet KLaptop will let you change the cpu policy very easily. (it's usually found in the sys-tray)
