Unhappy mandriva 2007 does not recognise my toshiba screen

mandriva 2007 does not recognize my toshiba screen as i am booting from my removable hard disk. it boots with ease but gives a message that it could not recognize the screen. What do i do? How to find the compatibility of the provided screen and mandriva as nothing is mentioned on the laptop's manual. Is it a video card problem? how can i get a list of v cards compatible with both my laptop and linux version?
