mandriva 2006 video configuration

hello

i just try to install mandriva 2006 on my new toshiba satellite M50-142 but it doesn't work!! In fact the installation works with no prob but it's the video card setting which is disappointing me. after the loading process the screen become unusable. So i launched on failsafe mode and install the last ati drivers : "https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27" with this comand "rpm -i --force [..].rpm" and after a reboot it still crash. I don't know what can i do so please help me!!!

ps : the video card is an ATI mobility radeon x600se

[edit]i opened the etc/X11/xorg.conf file but the driver is still "vesa"!!! the ati driver instal change nothing (very strange)[..]

The RPM doesnt edit the xorg file

run

fglrxconfig

the ati package installed it .
It prompts you and creates a new xorg file

If you installed Mandriva 2006 with the free downladed linux you may have problems in installing the ATI. What you need to do is login using the failsafe and use the root password. At the konsole type 'drakconf' to configure the XServer. I hope this will assist you.
