Mandrake 10.1 official hangs on startup / Sony Vaio VGN-B1XP

Hey
I have a problem starting up Mandrake 10.1 official on my SONY VGN-B1XP

specification: http://www.laptopshop.co.uk/sony-VAI...aptop-3-n2.htm

I have downloaded 3 CDs, checked md5sum, burned CDs with speed 4X.
After the installation, I have rebooted the laptop.

Mandrake started to check new harware... and it hung there.

What could this be?

OK there was a progress...

I reinstalled mandrake and it got through "checking new hardware"

After that, the screen gets weird and it hangs there again.

The screen is devided into 4-5 columns, and I can see mouse pointer in
each of them. I can move them by mouse.

???

Any help, please?
by the way I have tried to install fedora core 2 on this laptop and it worked.

Hi,
have you resolved the problem of hang ups on startup? I also installed Mandrake 10.1 Official and have the same symptoms as you described. Sometimes, however, the system manages to boot after a long (ca. few minutes) while.

Thanks in advance for your reply,
mattek

hey mattek

I couldn't resolve the problem.
I decided to use FC2 in stead.

hope it will succeed for you.
