lucid lynx compatible laptop

To whom it may concern,

Does anyone know of a completely or somewhat completely out of the box compatible laptop that can run ubuntu 10.04 also called lucid lynx? Not a netbook, a laptop. I've been checking out the samsung R series and thoes look pretty nice, what about a laptop from asus or maybe hp? I would like to use the laptop for video editing and sound editing, something with power. Your help is greatly appreciated.

My Dell Inspiron 1545 is pretty much 100% compatible, bar having to install drivers for the broadcom wifi. Other than that, it 'just works'.

There are loads of customisation options too, I run the T3000 processor (celeron dual core) with 4gb of RAM and it's more than enough for anything I do on it.

Of the laptops I've tried, all mine work fine out of the box except for my Asus.

Dell latitude D430
Dell Inspiron 1525 (w/ Intel wireless instead of broadcom)
Dell Studio 1535
Dell Insprion 1545 (w/ Intel wireless instead of broadcom)

What about other brands, samsung or lenovo maybe?

Just bought a Sony VPCF11C5E. It's a quad-core at 2.4GHz with 4GB RAM. It's fast.

I installed ubuntu 10.04 yesterday, and it is running 99% perfectly after a change to xorg.conf to get the NVIDIA driver working.

Webcam, bluetooth and wireless all worked immediately.
To get sound, I had to install alsa-backports
The only thing not currently working is the built-in microphone (but I don't need one).

Most hardware seems to work "out of the box" with linux nowadays.
I am very happy :)
