Low spec IBM Thinkpad ED310

Hi, I am new to this forum, and hope you can help me with a question :

I am dreaming of using my old IBM Thinkpad 310, which indeed has got humble specs, to run Linux.

This far I tried Damn Small Linux & Julex on Live CD. Both of these distros can load, and I can see the desktop, but nothing actually works.

Are there any linux that are less demanding for the system than DSL & Julex ?

Specifications for my IBM : P2 133 MHz, 16 MB RAM, (WIN95)

I had installed slackware on a thinkpad 380 with slightly higher specs, but I think it had 64M of ram. It might be able to run fluxbox as a window manager, but KDE or Gnome would be too much for that laptop, & live CDs need lots of ram, which is why you had problems.

You'll have better luck if you can get some more ram.

When you say "nothing actually works" how long are you giving it, and how big is the HD?

With that amount of RAM I'd guess almost everything is being put onto the HD or not decompressed at all until you click on it so it might be working but taking a ridiculous amount of time to load.

*note* I am just guessing here

Thanks for advice on RAM, I will get some more memory for the IBM and give it another go. Thanks again!
