I got the new laptop / netbook.
After all I didn't buy a rugged laptop. I seemed more redundant to travel with 2 laptops instead of one rugged. (And you can break 10 inexpensive Asus netbooks for the price of one rugged)
For those who are interested how I did it:

It came (fast) with a US keyboard and US power plug, but that didn't bother me. The import taxes however did.

The Wifi was "hard blocked", this fixes it:
jan@c1:~$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-asus.conf
blacklist asus_nb_wmi
Everything seems to run very smoothly out of the box with Slackware 14.1. Satisfied! :-)
