Linux XP 2010 desktop using USB
How to install Linux XP 2010 desktop in my netbook using usb (Flash Drive)?
Please help me.... |
First ,you need the iso file of Linux XP 2010.
Then, use unetbootin to put it on a flash drive. Boot off the flash drive to install. BUT - you might consider Jolicloud or another distro specifically configured for netbooks...Eeebuntu,etc. Just google "linux for netbooks" or something to find other available pre-configured distros.. Just google unetbootin for download for it,it wouldn;t let me post a link in this comment... |
unetbootin --you can use it to turn any iso file of an operating system into a bootable flash drive..
Jolicloud -- is preconfigured to support many different brand netbooks,is based on ubuntu, and has one-click install for programs like the CNR in Linux XP 2010. It will boot live off the flash drive so you can try it before installing it... |

hmmm...I think it works but I don't know how to install it..haha...
It gaves me choices -------------------------------------------------------- What type of media contains the packages to be installed? Local CDROM Hard Drive NFS image FTP HTTP -------------------------------------------------------- What should I choose? I tried Local CDROM and Hard Drive but I don't know what to do in the next step.. sorry for noob question...this is my first time to install linux, got no idea..haha |
Which distro did you decide to try? I am downloading Linux XP 2010 to see what the steps you should choose are...but it looks like the D/L could take awhile...if you are using another distro, post here so I can check it out..

I download my linux xp from forum but I forgot what forum is that..
I'm not really sure about the version but I think it is 2010..haha It's only 694MB in size..is this correct? I really want to try it out. |
The Linux XP 2010 that I downloaded here is 2.8 GB ,so I'm not at all sure we're talking about the same OS..
but the steps to install are basically the same for all of them.. 1 boot off your installation media (ie-the flash drive in the case of your netbook) 2 start the install 3 partition your hard drive if you want to/have room to dual boot with your current OS (Windows?),or partition to just install Linux XP (or any distro) by partitioning manually,or just choosing "use entire drive" or something close from the partitioning options 4 fill in your info(name, login name and password, etc) and answer a few other questions (language, keyboard, etc) 5 sit back and wait for the install to finish steps 3 and 4 are sometimes reversed from this order.. good luck and have fun learning! |

A USB device that is already formatted in FAT32 and has enough space to keep your image. If Ubuntu installation you already have a Linux distro installed there is an easier way, provided that your BIOS can boot from a USB key.
