Linux RH 9 Problem

On my Inspiron 8200 I installed the i8kutils in order to try out the extra buttons on linux.

I then added the following line to rc.local in /etc

/sbin/modprobe i8k (to load module)
/usr/bin/i8kbuttons -u "aumix -v +5" -d "aumix -v -5" -m "aumix -v m" &

and restarted linux. But it didn't work, I figured out that I had placed a /local/ in line above, then it worked. But then I shutdown linux and worked with my winxp. But now here comes the problem when I wanted to start up linux again I wouldn't. Linux boots and starts all these modules up etc. but when it reaches Redthat Deamon Network it says ok but then it doesn't go any further??? I don't know what's wrong???

Do I have to reinstall my linux or is there a way to boot up in safemode. I didn't make a boot disk either

Kind Regards

You could try this:

Boot your Red Hat install disk into rescue mode.
mount your Red Hat / partition.
Delete your changes.
shutdown and boot
