Linux, OSX and Mac Book Pro.

I'm on the lookout for a new Laptop since my old Sony Vaio is more a movable than portable since battery life is down to about 20 minutes, and is in generally not keeping up.

So I have been waiting for Intel to release their new Chipset for Laptops, and for a Manufacturer to release a decent laptop.

And the first as far as I could find was Apple, and a nice one to.
The New 17" Mac Book Pro looks very nice.

But to my question.
I currently run Kubuntu on both my Laptop and Desktop and Ubuntu on the server.
OSX does look attractive, and I have been tempted to leave it on the machine, with Windows that usually means giving up the nice tools from Linux.

But since OSX is based on BSD(I think), is it possible to compile applications made for linux, and have them run on OSX? Like Amarok, Kontact etc...

Or would my only option be to Wipe OSX and install Kubuntu?

There is OSS for Mac. Fink!

Nice one, thanks.

So I guess the answer is that it needs to be modified to run on OSX.
But that these people are doing it. :-)

Awsome, now all I need is to convince my Wife that I need to buy that new Laptop. :D

Yes,Fink is cool, but a bit tricky to get it work, sometimes

Well, My wife told me I'm getting a new laptop for my 30t Birthday in end of July. :D
So Far Apple have given the best matching laptop for what I would like in a new laptop.
I will keep on looking out for others, but I kind of rather want to buy one with OSX bundled than with Vista if I'm going to wipe it to install Linux, although it would fell more "correct" to wipe Vista, but I don't want MS to have the money, and the Mac book does look nice. ;-)
