Linux on toshiba satellite A75-S209 (some problems)

I have installed the Mepis distribution of linux on my laptop, and it detected everything but my internal Modem, if i open a console session and type dev/modem it says that the file dosn't exist, i don't know why!!!

on windows my internal modem runs in the comm3 port.

what can i do to solve this problem? i mean how can i connect my internal modem so i can navigate de web???

How can i see if my modem works on linux?
