linux on PocketPC or SideKick
Hello,
I am considering purchasing a pocketPC or a SideKick. I would just like to collect your thoughts, experiences, and opinions on these two devices. I will be using primarily the wireless internet, and the phone is just a nice add-on for emergencies, etc. Can I run linux on either of these two? Please feel free to post anything related to a PocketPC or SideKick in this thread. Thanks. tobz |
if u want to buy a pocket pc i would recommend to get Ipaq 55xx model or either 39xx
and no u wont be able to run Linux on ppc, not sure about sidekick |
well
I was looking into the t-mobile pocket PC for the wireless internet usage. With wifi or bluetooth, i have to be near a base station of some sort, but with the t-mobile ppc or sidekick, it has cellular internet for an "always on" feature. Thanks for the post.

I had this working at one time and hope to redo the configuration.
Use and iPAQ 3900 or older and install linux. The newer models are not supported yet. http://www.handhelds.org I would get a device with bluetooth built-in. You can then use a bluetooth enabled phone (within 10m) with the PDA to connect to the internet over GPRS. Here is what my configuration looked like: http://www.connecteduser.com/a006.php My next setup will use BlueZ (part of familiar) instead of Affix. |
